A new Accredited Employer search tool on the INZ website will make it easy for migrants with a partnership work visa to check if their current or prospective employer is accredited – giving these employers access to a pool of workers only available to Accredited Employers. The tool will go live on the INZ website on 31 May.

Visa holders will be able to search for the name or New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) of the employer they are interested in working for. Search results will display: 

  • the company name  
  • trading name 
  • NZBN 
  • accreditation expiry date

The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) and other New Zealand visa schemes use wage thresholds indexed to the median wage. This means that when the median wage changes, the criteria to grant visas also change.

As INZ advised last year, the median wage will increase to NZD $29.66 on 27 February 2023. This is based on the June rate published by Stats NZ the last year.

Wage thresholds must be met at the job check and visa application stages of the AEWV process.

The Minister of Immigration announced today that planned changes for the visa requirements of partners of temporary work visa holders have been deferred to April 2023.

These changes were initially set to come into effect in December 2022.

The Government recognises that there is a need to ensure partners are only entering higher skilled jobs. However, they want to provide certainty for migrant partners of their ability to work in New Zealand and a streamlined process for entering high skilled roles.

The Government will be looking at some adjustments to the way partner work rights will be implemented to reflect some of the feedback received from stakeholders.

More information on this will be announced in the New Year.

Selections of expressions of interest (EOIs) for the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa will resume on 9 November 2022.

The points-based residence visa has been closed to new applications since April 2020.

People who have already submitted an EOI can update their information or withdraw their EOI and request a refund.

On 9 November Immigration New Zealand will select all EOIs at the current threshold of 160 points.

After 9 November, the points threshold for selection will increase to 180 points, to better align with the future direction of the Skilled Migrant Category. EOIs will be selected again on 18 January 2023.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is consulting on the future of the Skilled Migrant Category and proposals to introduce a new, simplified points-based system.

Consultation runs until 18 November.
